Recycling of electrical appliances is worth it

The company ASEKOL has awarded the City of Ostrava and  the Ostrava Waste Management Company OZO Ostrava with a certificate indicating the benefits of sorting and recycling of electrical equipment.

The Ostrava Waste Management Company OZO is significantly involved in the take-back of electrical equipment in Ostrava: all Ostrava collecting yards serve as take-back points, OZO provides for the collection of decommissioned electrical appliances from red containers and its premises are used for the operation of a protected workshop for the dismantling of electrical equipment. For this, ASEKOL has granted us the Certificate of Environmental Account, which shows that last year the citizens of Ostrava got rid of 397,133.98 kilograms of electrical devices. By delivering them for recycling, we saved 4,649.32 MWh of electricity, 243,282.43 litres of oil, 21,180.48 m3 of water and 191.66 tonnes of primary raw materials. In addition, we reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by 994.39 tonnes of CO2 eq., and the production of hazardous waste by 4,394.58 tonnes.

The result of the study has clearly demonstrated that the take-back of electrical devices, even the smallest ones, has a significant positive impact on the environment. If we realize that recycling of 100 conventional TVs saves up to 4 years of household electricity consumption or saves around 400 litres of oil needed for up to seven trips to Croatia, they are impressive numbers. A positive message for computer users is also that delivering 10 old monitors saves the power consumption needed for running a notebook for almost 5 years. All those who make such a major contribution to protecting the environment deserve great recognition.

Thank you for putting old appliances where they belong. It is worth it!
