The city team cleaned up Ostrava again

On Saturday, April 7, the city´s team headed by Ostrava Mayor Tomáš Macura and Deputy Mayor Kateřina Šebestová took part  in the project Let ´s clean up the Czech Republic again.

In the morning they collected waste in the area behind the Antonín Dvořák Theater near Miniuni Area. Getting involved in the national event Let’s Clean up the Czech Republic is one of the activities of our candidacy for the title of European Green Capital 2020.

The group, consisting of 38 volunteers – politicians, officials, university representatives and the public, including children, collected 1490 kilograms of waste together. They found a large part of the classic household equipment – from the television through the vacuum cleaner to the refrigerator. There were shoes, clothes, toys, books, magazines and other items that do not belong to nature.

The Moravian Ostrava and Přívoz Municipal District and the University of Ostrava also participated in the event.

Let’s clean up the Czech Republic – This is a volunteer cleaning event, which regularly takes place in the spring and autumn throughout the Czech Republic and even in a few places outside of it. The first year of this event took place in 2014, but it dates back to 1992. It is the largest volunteer event in the Czech Republic. In 2017, over 96,000 volunteers took part in it, collecting over 1500 tonnes of waste. During autumn cleaning, the Ostrava city team collected about 800 kilograms of waste.
