Great Interest in the Green to Ostrava Meeting

The public was highly interested in the meeting about green vegetation and public space that was held in the Pant Centre as part of the Evenings with Scientists cycle under the name of the Green to Ostrava (Zelená Ostravě). They talked about development of green vegetation in cities, about the needs of citizens and about how the individual may participate and transform public space in their neighbourhood as their wish.

On Wednesday 21 February, the participants took a look at public space from the perspective of geographer Ondřej Slach, architect Eva Špačková and Deputy Mayor of Ostrava Kateřina Šebestová.  The people in the full hall discussed the functions that public space should perform in relation to citizens, the city as such, about the possible use thereof, but also about the roles of the individual entities or citizens in its creation and maintenance. Visitors were interested in the possibility of involving the public and how, in particular, to “deliver” their ideas to the town councils of the districts or of the city.

In cooperation with the University of Ostrava and VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava, they are planning another discussion evening, this time focused on Air Quality, which is a widely discussed topic at the present. We will announce the date in advance.
