Ostrava’s bid to become European Green Capital 2020 includes a wide range of environment-themed activities. And now you can get involved directly in helping to keep our city clean.
As in previous years, Ostrava is participating in a national project to clean rubbish and litter from streams, ponds, rivers, woodlands, and other locations. On Saturday 7 April, a team of employees from the City Authority – including Mayor Tomáš Macura and Deputy Mayor Kateřina Šebestová (whose main area of responsibility is the environment) – will be hitting the streets to clean up several locations in Ostrava’s city centre. Staff from the central municipal district (Moravská Ostrava a Přívoz) and the University of Ostrava will also be lending a hand. So if you want to help keep our city clean and tidy for everyone, why not come along and help? Register your participation at uklidmecesko@ostrava.cz by 5 April. We’ll contact you and give you more details.
You’ll need to bring suitable clothing and a good mood. Ostrava’s waste management company OZO will provide protective gloves, bin bags and a large bin.
If you decide to get involved in the project at a different location within Ostrava, simply send us some photos of your clean-up and we’ll send you something as a reward!
