Lower Vítkovice has announced one million visitors as early as in mid-summer!

The most popular tourist destination outside Prague, the industrial area of Lower Vítkovice surpassed the magical limit of one million visitors last week. This happened a few days earlier than in 2017.

Last year, Lower Vítkovice beat the previous record, reporting a total of 1,557,784 tourists at the end of 2017.

“Compared to last year, the numbers are slightly above average. We hope to reach 1.5 million visitors again. Ideally, we would like to beat last year’s record this year”, says Petr Koudela, Director of Lower Vítkovice.

In 2018, Lower Vítkovice’s main focus is on the programme. In the Science and Technology Centre, visitors can see the temporary exhibition Klamárium, and at the end of June Milan Dobeš Museum opened the first temporary exhibition entitled “We All Want to Be Cleaned” by Krištof Kintera.

“We are always trying to bring new attractive programme and side activities. That is why visitors like to come back and continue to find the visit to Lower Vítkovice attractive”, adds Petr Koudela.

These days, Lower Vítkovice hosts the prestigious European conference TBEX, which has welcomed bloggers from around the world. By the end of the year, the area will host the sports event Urban Challenge, Hlubina will host the biggest product design show Meat Design in autumn, Gong will offer concerts by the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra and many other events are already in the pipeline.

Ten years ago, few would have imagined that the industrial site of Lower Vítkovice would be preserved and converted to an educational, cultural and social centre for schools and the general public. Lower Vítkovice is today one of the main symbols of Ostrava.
