PLATO gallery moves into former Bauhaus store
The PLATO city art gallery has moved into new temporary premises at the former Bauhaus DIY store, where it has 5000 square metres of exhibition space. The gallery will use this former retail site until the conversion of the nearby historic municipal slaughterhouse complex is complete. The gallery is celebrating its first weeks at its new temporary home with a range of exhibitions, performances, screenings, concerts, theatrical performances, discussions, art workshops for all ages, and educational programmes for schools.
The gallery’s director Marek Pokorný commented on the new premises:“We are offering the former Bauhaus building to artists, curators and visitors as a shared space where they can help us co-create a vibrant contemporary art institution.”
On the day of the opening ceremony the gallery unveiled several new exhibitions from its ‘Temporary Structures’ cycle – including paintings, sculptures and video installations. Visitors can also use the gallery’s library, shop and bistro – all of them designed by leading artists.
The gallery’s permanent home will be the former municipal slaughterhouse complex – a cultural heritage site (just across the street from the Bauhaus building) that is currently undergoing a full restoration and conversion. When complete, the new gallery will include seven exhibition rooms.
