Tylův Sad (Tyl Garden) is a small park in front of the University of Ostrava’s Science Faculty building in Slezská Ostrava. The space has underwent a complete renovation and revitalization which created a modern, natural park to serve the needs of students and the local community. New park furniture was installed, footpaths were created, and greenery was planted.
As part of the revitalization project, unused asphalt spaces was replaced by new paved and compacted gravel walkways. Rainwater is drained from paved areas into a reservoir with an overflow gutter channelling the water back into the storm drain system. A new paved area was created in the central part of the park as a meeting-place for people as well as an outdoor teaching area. New public lighting and park furniture was installed. The new benches and bins have been chosen for their timeless aesthetic appeal, robust construction and simplicity of maintenance. Subtle spot lighting was installed in the central area of the park.
High-risk trees and unsightly shrubs were removed, but healthy and viable greenery were preserved to the maximum possible extent. New trees, shrubs and hedges were added, along with beds of perennials and meadow grasses.
The revitalization has been designed by the Ateliér38 studio. The expected cost is 15.9 million CZK (including VAT). Work began in late August 2023 and was completed in March 2024.
