Winners of The SEARCH FOR THE WATER SPRING competition

For three months, a thousand schoolchildren in Ostrava were enjoying themselves with water, because their schools signed up for the project “Search for the Water Spring” organized by the Ostrava Waterworks and Sewerage Company (OVAK). The best ones have made it to the grand finals at the Silesian Ostrava Castle on Saturday, 1 June. And the prices were worth it! Three most successful classes of the entire project “Search for the Water Spring 2018” were awarded gift vouchers worth CZK 15,000 (1x) and CZK 10,000 (2x) donated by the city of Ostrava, the project’s partner.

Subsequently, each member of the winning team won an attractive prize (branded backpacks, selfie sticks and high-quality water bottles). In addition, for the theoretical part, three best teams received a “Search for the Water Spring” Einstein cup. For the best FB activities, the team’s representatives were given a Smart Cookie Cup. “Mind maps”, “Water geocaching”, “We Enjoy Ostrava”, “We Enjoy Water” – these were the names of some of the themes. Each of them represented a set of tasks that the children had to solve. And, according to Radka Vanková, an OVAK project manager, they were very successful:

“Going through the children’s work was fantastic. I recommend everyone to look at www.hledejpramenvody.cz , where a lot of the material is available. It is evident that the children (and not only the children) have completely fallen for the game. Schools that did not participate this year will have an opportunity to do so next year. The project “Search for Water Spring” is our gift to the children in Ostrava. We certainly want to do it again next year”.

The aim of the project is to familiarize children with water and to teach them how rare the liquid is and that there would be no life without it. The children drew pictures, wrote poems, and also took photos, shot videos and took field trips to search for water “caches”. The huge interest in the project among Ostrava schools proves that we are on the right track. Schools confirm that children had a lot of fun solving the tasks. They also appreciated the fact that the project does not shun modern technology, but uses it actively.
