Ostrava hosted a workshop focused on sustainable mobility

One of the key activities of the project “RESOLVE – Sustainable mobility and the transition to a low-carbon retailing economy” is the Import workshop, which was held in Ostrava on 11 September 2018. It was attended by representatives of the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Sweden. Experts from these countries helped to create an action plan and presented the latest trends in the area of parking, cycling and electromobility.

They also discussed measures to remove barriers to implementing best practices in Ostrava and Opava, two Czech cities involved in the RESOLVE project. Partner cities try to reduce emissions and improve air quality by offering sustainable forms of transport – attractive and affordable public transport and a safe environment for cyclists and pedestrians. Part of the debate among cities is also how to attract people to city centres again and create an attractive environment for shopping and leisure.

The Ostrava workshop was already fifth, previously held in Växjö (Sweden), Reggio Emilia (Italy), Manchester (United Kingdom) and Almada (Portugal). Besides the Moravian-Silesian Region, other European cities and regions involved in the project are Roermond, Warsaw, Maribor, Reggio Emilia, Almada, Växjö, and Manchester.

The steps and activities that both cities will eventually take to improve sustainable transport will be elaborated into the RESOLVE action plan.
