New cycle route opened
Cyclists can now use a brand-new cycle route (route Y) running along Novinářská and Výstavní Streets in Ostrava. The route was built by the City of Ostrava with the help of EU infrastructure funding. At the moment (during April) cyclists should ride with extra care, because the finishing touches to the route are still underway; the route will be fully complete by the end of April.
Another new cycle route scheduled for opening this spring will link Výškovice and Stará Bělá in the south of the city, and in the early summer route P will be opened – connecting the ‘Kolonie Jeremenko’ tram/bus stop and the health centre (‘Poliklinika’) in Hrabůvka. Work on both routes is currently in its final phase.
Other cycle route projects scheduled for completion later this year include the link between the VŠB-Technical University student halls of residence and the Slovan crossroads in Poruba, a route linking the Fifejdy housing estate and the former Bauhaus store, the route between the Hrabová industrial zone and Nová Bělá, and a link between U Boříka Street and the crossroads at the Nová Ves water works.
Planned road repairs in Ostrava will involve the partial or complete closure of some roads – and this will also have an impact on some cycle routes. A complete overview of all ongoing and planned closures is available on the City of Ostrava map portal: http://gisova.ostrava.cz/cyklisticke-stezky.php
