The City Public Transport Corporation (Dopravní podnik Ostrava) has noted an increase in the number of passengers for the second year. As from 2010, the number of Ostrava mass transport passengers had been gradually decreasing. These were the 2016 numbers which indicated that people have started to gradually return to public transport. Last year confirmed this trend.

The City Public Transport Corporation evaluates the numbers of passengers in line with the currently applicable code of practice of the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic.

“We transported more than 91 million passengers in 2017. I am happy that this confirmed our last year’s vision and I wish this to be a permanent trend in the city mass transport,” commented Daniel Morys, Director of the City Public Transport Corporation, on the situation.

A significant share in the return of passengers to the city mass transport in Ostrava is taken by undoubtedly the best check-in system for banking cards, integration of municipal zones into one tariff zone, as well as new projects of the City Public Transport Corporation, such as transport assistants operating in the vehicles or more frequent cleaning and camera system.

“Based on the survey results, our services are used the most by students. In the past year, we have, however, also noted an increase in passengers among businessmen and company owners, which we highly appreciate, as it proves that we provide really modern, fast and safe urban transport services,” adds Daniel Morys.

For the future, the City Public Transport Corporation is betting on large projects of fleet replacement, expanding the team of transport assistants and further development of modern trends in passenger check-in systems. The City Public Transport Corporation also noted a record-breaking evaluation of passenger satisfaction.

“In the surveys processed by the Ostrava transport undertaking each year, we received the score of 6 out of 7 for the first time, which we highly appreciate and perceive it as a challenge to keep improving this score,” adds Daniel Morys.
