Ostrava will have new Škoda ForCity Smart trams next autumn
The Ostrava Public Transport Company (DPO) unveiled the design of its new Škoda ForCity Smart trams, which will be deployed in Ostrava next autumn. Ostrava will be the first city in the Czech Republic and Central Europe to have Škoda ForCity Smart trams in operation.
They will again be designed in turquoise, which has been gradually applied to the entire DPO fleet, and will thus be harmonized with the city’s visual style. The dynamically shaped front of the tram will provide both comfort and convenience for the driver as well as greater operational safety. The trams will have the three exclamation marks above the door – the logo of Ostrava.
The new cars will meet the latest Ostrava standards for comfort and safety. They will be fully air-conditioned, equipped with Wi-Fi internet connection, USB ports for charging mobile devices, anti-vandal films and external and internal camera systems. These ensure that the new trams will offer maximum comfort, safety and state-of-the-art technology to passengers using public transport.
The Ostrava Public Transport Company has signed a contract for the purchase of 40 pieces of Škoda ForCity Smart trams of the latest generation worth CZK 1.9 billion. They should be in full operation after all approval procedures in autumn 2020. The capacity of the new trams is 200 passengers.
