Ostrava continues to modernize its fleet
The Mayor of Ostrava handed the keys from 6 new CNG cars to the officers of the Ostrava Municipal Police, thus fulfilling this year’s plan – the handover of 21 alternative drive vehicles to the city, city districts and municipal police from the project “Ostrava’s Alternative Drive”.
Only this year, Ostrava’s city budget funded the purchase of 21 alternative drive cars, investing nearly CZK 10 million, with subsidies from the State Environmental Fund for these cars amounting to CZK 2,070,000. The total cost is almost CZK 12 million. The cars were purchased under the project “Ostrava’s Alternative Drive”, which is co-financed by the National Programme Environment.
“We currently have 48 new alternative drive vehicles, including eight electric vehicles and 40 CNG vehicles. In the case of municipal police, our goal is for all of its cars to be electromobiles or CNG vehicles; we are only months away from meeting this goal”, said Mayor of Ostrava Tomáš Macura.
At the end of February, the City Authority submitted a new joint application for the project “Ostrava’s Alternative Drive II” for another 20 alternative drive vehicles, 5 cars for the Ostrava Municipal Police and the remaining ones for 11 city districts. Three cars will have CNG drive, the others will be electromobiles. The project will again be co-financed from the National Programme Environment.
The application has been successfully approved by the State Environmental Fund and the City has already received the grant decision. A procurement procedure for the purchase of the vehicles is ready and waiting to be announced. In 2019 Ostrava will have 68 low-emission vehicles.
