Ostrava is the Eco-Transport Leader

Two new electromobiles went to city district Radvanice and Bartovice, one to Hrabová and one to Slezská Ostrava. The cars were purchased under the “Alternative Driving in Ostrava I” project, co-financed from the National Environmental Programme. These 6 vehicles were purchased for 3.96 million Czech crowns, of which the amount of CZK 900,000 was provided in the form of a subsidy from the Ministry of the Environment.

“The constantly unsatisfactory air quality makes us use any and all opportunities to improve the situation. One of them is accelerated greening of the city’s fleet. Therefore, we prepared the “Alternative Driving in Ostrava I” project last year to purchase 21 ecological vehicles and have obtained support from the Ministry of the Environment,” said Tomáš Macura, the Mayor of Ostrava, on this subject.

The above-mentioned six vehicles will be expanded with 15 more under the “Alternative Driving in Ostrava I” project by the end of October. In March, two Volkswagen e-Golf electromobiles will be handed over for the needs of the Ostrava Municipal Authority. The remaining 13 CNG vehicles for the Municipal Police of Ostrava will be supplied in autumn. In October 2018, Ostrava will have 48 ecological vehicles for its municipal authority, districts and Municipal Police.

At the end of February, the Municipal Authority will submit a new joint application under the “Alternative Driving in Ostrava II” project for a further 20 vehicles with alterative drive. In the case of successful approval of the application for subsidy from the National Environmental Programme, Ostrava will have 68 vehicles of the low-emission category in 2019.
