Ostrava saw eRallye electric car parade
After completing a thousand-kilometre two-day eRallye, electric cars finished their journey in Ostrava. The destination was not arbitrary, because both the city and the region are considered leaders in the development of modern technology and clean mobility.
The first-ever eRallye began on October 10 in Munich, Germany. On the first day, the 1,000km route led through Deggendorf, Písek and Prague; the following day, the cars continued through Brno to Ostrava. The final destination was the Triple-Hall near Nová Karolina.
The trip has shown that these cars can travel inexpensively, quietly, without emissions and that due to the dense network of public charging stations they can even be reliably used for longer routes.
Ostrava is considered to be the leader in introducing new and eco-friendly technologies. Currently, the city, city districts and the city police use eight electric vehicles, and will soon get 15 more. Within the municipality, it will have the largest fleet of electric cars. By the end of 2020, Ostrava will be the first major city in the Czech Republic to phase out diesel buses from public transport and use CNG vehicles as well as electric buses or battery-powered trolleybuses, which can use the batteries to even travel on routes without trolley lines.
