The Ostrava Transport Company is Leader in Drawing European Subsidies

CZK 958 million – the amount that the Ostrava Transport Company (DPO) can already use in the current programming period (2014–2020). It is more than any other transport company in the Czech Republic has managed to obtain from IROP in this programming period.

“The Ostrava transport company has very successfully used European subsidies for fleet renewal and modernization of the urban public transport infrastructure in Ostrava. Of course, we are also planning other projects”, says Daniel Morys, CEO and Chairman of the DPO Board.

In the previous programming period, until 2013 the most significant investment was the renewal of the fleet, including CNG infrastructure, or the purchase of in-vehicle and passenger registration systems.

Now we are focusing on a continuous fleet renewal for modern and environmentally friendly vehicles: The new Stadler trams, together with new battery-powered combined-drive trolleybuses, electric buses and CNG buses, will bring an entirely new comfort in the form of air conditioning or Wi-Fi internet access, in addition to their contribution to the environment. The renewal and upgrading of the DPO fleet is now planned until 2022, with a total investment volume of CZK 4.7 billion.

However, the Ostrava transport company also uses European grants for its other strategic projects. It is implementing for example projects to modernize information systems or reduce the energy performance of buildings.
